Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Table

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, fiends, and dark forces expanding in power within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 are included.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of heroes who will split off from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.

This warrior group consists of Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at one table would be impossible.

That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might appear mismatched, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose death started the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The traitor then settled his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each member has a specific drive to exit the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and cautions that it is a nasty place.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having defied his relatives’ demands to execute the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the group reach places they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:

  • Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The healer betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the clan.

This results in them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of Casimir.

What’s Next?

From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Questers and Schemers tables.

Viewers can expect discovering which players will be where in the story’s last Overture episode, streaming live on October 24.
