Nobody talks about the concluding moment of the Ashes. That initial ball that's legendary. That wide that goes to the slips, that elegant shot for four, that wicket, shattering the stumps! Concluding moments? I had to research them. Moeen Ali slicing a drive behind to finish an innings defeat in a dead rubber in 2015; Boyd Rankin being caught in the slips off Harris, Rankin participating in his sole Test at the fag-end of a quick disintegration in a comprehensive defeat that's been plentiful in 2014; a Steve Harmison short ball deflecting off Justin Langer's shoulder for four leg byes, the sole boundary Australia manage in a pursuit they'll never get to make in 2005.

It separates between questioning how things will go, and knowing how they do. One undeniable fact, there's no certainty there will be a positive outcome. Collectively, they have achieved some of the most improbable victories, experienced some of the ugliest dismissals, scored some of the unlikeliest centuries, and taken some of the most surprising exceptional bowling spells in the annals of the English game.

No matter how this prestigious tournament concludes, they have been, in turn, astonishing, preposterous, ridiculous, infuriating, and totally, unrepentantly, unapologetically enjoyable.
